Alex was born in 1970, in Detroit, Michigan. Alex obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree at
Northwestern State University and his Juris Doctor in 1999 from Southern University Law School. Alex served as a clerk for the Attorney General’s office for two years and was a former Assistant
District Attorney and former Assistant Parish Attorney for the Caddo Parish Commission. Prior to serving as Assistant Parish Attorney, he was a criminal defense lawyer in Lake Charles, Louisiana, for the Indigent Defender’s Office. Alex served in the capacity of bond attorney for the City of Shreveport and Shreveport-Bossier Port Commission. Additionally, he serves as Ad Hoc Judge Pro Tempore in Shreveport City Court. Alex is admitted to practice in all Louisiana State Courts and the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. He has been active in the community and has served as President of the Federal Bar Association in North Louisiana, President of the Black Lawyers Association of Shreveport/Bossier, and is a graduate of the
Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program. Alex is a member of the Louisiana State and Shreveport Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Black Lawyers Association of
Shreveport/Bossier, and an associate member of Harry V. Booth American Inns of Court. Also, Alex is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and a Prince Hall Mason. He is married to Tonya R. Washington and has three children.
